The new St. John XXIII Interfaith Food Pantry opened on Oct. 1. The food pantry is located at 3609 Washington Road (Finley Hall) on the campus of St. Francis of Assisi parish in Finleyville. The pantry is now accepting the names of individuals and families needing food and asks that all individuals and families please call 724-348-7145 to leave your name and contact information, and someone will call you back to register for the food pantry. The actual dates for food distribution in October have not been identified. New registered individuals and families will be notified about the food distribution dates.

Claysville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is selling Italian hoagies for $6 each. Order deadline is Oct. 3. Call Sandy at 724-663-4387 to order. Orders will be available for pickup between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the fire hall, 154 Main St., Claysville.

The Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society is having its annual Autumn Food Fair at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church’s community center, 123 Gilkeson Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Oct. 4 and 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. All proceeds benefit the philanthropic efforts of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. A small flea market will also feature books, jewelry and handbags. Greek food favorites of moussaka, pastitsio, spanakopita, tiropita, gyros, homemade soups and an autumn favorite, chicken rolls, will be served. A bake sale will feature rice pudding, Greek pastries, baklava, cakes and cookies. Eat-in or take-out will be available. No phone or online ordering. Cash and credit cards accepted. Jefferson United Methodist Church at 190 Washington St., Jefferson, will host a soup sale Oct. 5 from noon to 3 p.m., or until all soup is sold. Soup is $10 per quart, and ham and bean, stuffed pepper, vegetable beef and broccoli cheese will be available.
