The Minnesota Vikings will place wide receiver Justin Jefferson on injured reserve, according to a person with knowledge of the decision, forcing the 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year to miss at least the next four games because of a hamstring injury.
- The Arizona Cardinals placed leading rusher James Conner on injured reserve following a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Bengals.
It’s another blow for the Cardinals (1-4). Conner currently ranks eighth in the NFL with 364 rushing yards.
- Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane reportedly will miss multiple weeks after suffering a knee injury in Miami’s win over the New York Giants. According to NFL Network, Achane’s injury is not expected to sideline him for the rest of the season.
- The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms on a trade to send receiver Van Jefferson and a seventh-round draft pick in 2025 to the Atlanta Falcons for a sixth-round pick in 2025.
- Tight end Travis Kelce is expected to be available when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, despite hurting his ankle Sunday.
Boys soccer
Joel Chambers scored the only goal of the game and Charleroi finished undefeated in Class A Section 2 with a 1-0 win at Greensburg Central Catholic on Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Nathan Mazon made the one-goal lead stand as the Cougars finished 10-0 in section and improved to 16-0 overall.
- John Scott scored twice, Ryan Moessner and Zach Pysh each added goal, and Bentworth defeated Beth-Center 4-1 in a match between playoff-bound teams from Class A Section 2.
Bentworth (8-2, 12-2) pulled away after leading 2-1 at halftime. Mikey Rodriguez scored the goal for Beth-Center (4-5, 9-6).
- Andy Palm scored three goals, sparking Trinity to a 7-0 win over Uniontown in Class 3A Section 3.
- Dylan Wudkwych scored two goals, powering Washington to a 2-1 victory at Southmoreland in Class 2A Section 3.
Goalkeeper Carson Shiel made six saves to keep the Prexies in the lead. The win moves Wash High’s record to 5-8 in the section and 5-11 overall.
- Yough scored one goal in each half for a 2-0 victory over Waynesburg in Class 2A Section 3.
Waynesburg fell to 4-9 in section and 5-10 overall.
Goalkeeper Nick Willard made 10 saves for Waynesburg.
- Ligonier Valley defeated California 4-0 in a Class A Section 2 match. It was Ligonier Valley’s first section win.
- Class A Section 4 leader Seton LaSalle was a 4-0 winner over Chartiers-Houston.
Girls soccer
Peters Township remained undefeated and in first place in Class 4A Section 2 by playing to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against visiting Mt. Lebanon Monday night.
The win leaves PT at 11-0-2 in section and 13-0-2 overall. USC is close behind at 11-1 in section. Lebo is 6-5-2 and in fourth place.
Lebo scored the first goal but PT’s Mandy Pirosko scored off a scrum in front of the net to tie the score.
Retton hospitalized
Olympic gymnastics champion Mary Lou Retton has pneumonia and is in intensive care in a Texas hospital.
Retton’s daughter, McKenna Kelley, shared Retton’s condition in an Instagram post Tuesday. Kelley said the 55-year-old Retton, who became the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around title, is “fighting for her life” and not able to breathe on her own.
Retton became an icon of the U.S. Olympic movement during her gold medal-winning performance at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
