DiMajio Locante scored his second touchdown of the game, a two-yard run with less than one minute remaining to give Keystone Oaks a 21-14 come-from-behind upset of previously undefeated Washington on Friday in a Class 2A Century Conference game at Wash High Stadium.
Keystone Oaks was able to overcome a 14-7 deficit by scoring 14 points in the final eight minutes.
The loss leaves Washington at 4-1 in the conference and 8-1 overall. Keystone Oaks climbs to 3-2, 5-4.
The Prexies can still win the Century Conference and its top seed in the playoffs with a victory at McGuffey next week.
After intercepting a Wash High pass and taking over at its own one-yard line in the second quarter, Keystone Oaks drove 99 yards for the game’s first score. The Golden Eagles ran 12 plays and drained almost six minutes off the clock before Locante scampered into the end zone from six yards to give the Golden Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Wash High ran only 20 offensive plays in the first half and the Prexies were held to minus-7 rushing yards on eight attempts.
The Prexies did all of their scoring early in the second half. A long run by Eddie Lewis set up Travis Crutcher’s four-yard touchdown run. Elijah Tomas’ two-point conversion run gave the Prexies an 8-7 lead after only three plays of the third quarter.
Wash High recovered a KO fumble on the ensuing kickoff and quickly drove to the Golden Eagles’ one-yard line, from where Ruben Gordon scored to put the Prexies up 14-7.
After forcing Wash High to turn the ball over on downs at midfield to start the fourth quarter, KO drove for the tying score when Billy Bricker scampered into the end zone from 10 yards with 7:20 remaining.
The Golden Eagles recovered a Wash High fumble on the ensuing possession, and it set up the game-winning sore by Locante.
Wash High quarterback Tristan Reed completed 11 of 20 passes for 150 yards, including six tosses to Gordon that covered 79 yards.
McGuffey 31, South Park 14
Dylan Stewart booted three field goals and McGuffey pulled away with two third-quarter touchdowns as the Highlanders defeated South Park 31-14 in a non-conference game.
Stewart made kicks of 23 and 27 yards in the first half and added a 37-yarder in the fourth quarter as McGuffey improved to 7-2 overall.
The Highlanders’ defense held South Park (6-3) in check for most of the game. McGuffey led 6-0 at halftime, 21-7 after three quarter and 31-7 in the fourth quarter.
Stewart’s two field goals were the only points in the first half, but Charles Wagers scored on a five-yard burst midway through the third quater. On the enuing kickoff, South Park fumbled and McGuffey recovered. The turnover set up fullback Dylan Droboj’s five-yard TD run that made it 21-0.
Connor Crowe added a seven-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter and Stewart kicked his third field goal to make the score 31-7.
California 62, Beth-Center 6
California’s rushing attack and stout defense was key in the Trojans’ 62-6 victory over Beth-Center in Class A Tri-County South Conference play.
California has assured itself of the conference title.
The Trojans (6-0, 8-1) had three reached 100 yards in rushing with Jake Layhue and Lee Qualk gaining 118 yards apiece. Spencer Petrucci had 107 yards. California rushed for 432 yards.
Petrucci scored three touchdowns, Layhue and Qualk each scored a pair of TDs. Fred Sherman and Landon Abercrombie also found the end zone.
Burgettstown 28, Avella 6
Rudy Brown ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, Brodie Kuzior ran for a score and threw for another, and Burgettstown defeated Avella 28-6 in a Class A Black Hills Conference game.
The win moves Burgettstown to 3-3 in the conference and 5-3 overall.
Kuzior threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Zach Schrockman in the first quarter and ran seven yards to the end zone in the second quarter to put the Blue Devils ahead 14-0.
Avella (1-5, 3-6) closed to within 14-6 in the third quarter when Broden Hamm scored on a 14-yard run.
Brown, however, sealed the win for Burgettstown with TD scampers of seven and four yards.
Linsly 27, Trinity 3
Andy Palm kicked an 18-yard field goal in the first quarter, but Trinity suffered a 27-3 setback to Linsly (W.Va.) in non-conference play.
The Hillers’ Jonah Williamson was 17 of 26 for 203 yards and gained 113 yards rushing on 19 carries. Dante DeRubbo caught 5 passes for 81 yards.
Laurel Highlands 21, Ringgold 19
Laurel Highlands turned three Ringgold turnovers into touchdowns and earned a 21-19 victory in Class 4A Big Seven Conference play at Joe Montana Stadium.
The Rams (0-5, 0-9) had the opportunity to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs (1-4, 2-7) forced a turnover on downs.
Laurel Highlands’ Parker Hoff scored on a 6-yard run with 10:35 left in the first quarter and Tanner Bruzda connected on the first of three PATs for a 7-0 lead.
Ringgold’s Daryl Tolliver responded with a 67-yard touchdown run on the next play from scrimmage and Tyler Jones tied the game with the extra point.
Tolliver scored again on the Rams’ next possession, but one needed one yard to reach the end zone for a 13-7 advantage at 7:18 of the first quarter. Tolliver gained 95 yards rushing on 11 carries.
Antwan Black Jr.’s 33-yard interception return for a touchdown and Darren Dunn’s 32-yard reception from Noah Lion gave the Mustangs a 21-13 halftime lead.
Jamar Bethea’s 6-yard touchdown run with 8:22 remaining cut Ringgold’s deficit to 21-19.
Sto-Rox 18, Waynesburg 13
Sto-Rox rallied for an 18-13 victory to stun Waynesburg on Friday night in Class 2A Century Conference action at Waynesburg.
The Raiders’ Jacob Stephenson scored on runs of 6 and 12 yards for a 13-6 halftime lead.
Waynesburg fell to 2-3 in conference play and 6-3 overall. Sto-Rox improved to 2-4, 2-6 overall.
Cornell 39, Chartiers-Houston 0
Cornell opened the scoring with a punt return for a touchdown, ended it with a fumble return for a score, and inbetween the Raiders’ defense dominated for a 39-0 victory over Chartiers-Houston in the Class A Black Hills Conference.
Cornell (4-2, 7-2) held Chartiers-Houston (0-6, 0-9) to only 50 yards total offense.
