1959 – Bubba Lewis rushes for 233 yards and one touchdown, and Larry Blout scores three TDs as Mapletown High School defeats Jefferson-Morgan, 33-7.

1970 – Wash High snaps an 11-game football losing streak by beating Uniontown, 23-20. Robert Bennett scores the winning touchdown on a two-yard run with 9:34 remaining.

1970 – Jefferson-Morgan overcomes a 14-point first-quarter deficit and defeats defending WPIAL Class B champion German, 26-14. The Rockets’ Jim Culp runs for one touchdown and throws two scoring passes to Brad Monas.

1971 – Don Kasperik’s one-yard touchdown run with less than nine minutes remaining enables Washington & Jefferson to open defense of its Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship with a 13-6 victory at Bethany.

1986 – Washington’s Larry Thompson, running his first cross country race of the season, wins the County Coaches Meet at Mingo Park in a time of 17:07. Thompson wins by 54 seconds. The Prexies’ Sue Schneck wins the girls division in 22:07. The boys team titles go to McGuffey with Trinity winning the girls competition.

1987 – Senior tailback Jerry Caldwell rushes for 245 yards and three touchdowns as Fort Cherry defeats visiting Avonworth 21-13. Caldwell scores on runs of 63, 72 and 61 yards.

1991 – Michelle Fischer becomes Ringgold’s all-time leading goal scorer in girls soccer. Fischer’s goal in the Rams’ 8-0 victory over Carlynton gave her 49 for her career, one more than Julianne Rue.

2011 – The Atlantic Coast Conference extends its northern reach by officially accpeting Pitt and Syracuse, boosting the league’s membership to 14 schools.
