Cole Jaworowski ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, and Avella held off Carlynton 32-28 in a Class A Black Hills Conference game.

Avella (1-2, 3-3) climbed to the .500 mark overall with the win. The Eagles led 26-14 at halftime but a one-yard Jaworowski TD run in the third quarter was all Avella needed in the second half.

Jaworowski also had TD runs of three and six yards. He threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bradick to open the scoring. The duo also hooked up on a two-point conversion pass.

Bradick rushed for 116 yards on 21 carries.

Chas Rush had a 14-yard scoring scamper for the Eagles.

Belle Vernon 57, South Allegheny 6

Belle Vernon proved it is still one of the top teams in the WPIAL and state following a 57-6 victory over South Allegheny in a Class 3A Interstate Conference contest.

The Leopards’ Quinton Martin scored four touchdowns and the defense stymied the Gladiators’ offense until a touchdown in the fourth quarter with the clock running and the Belle Vernon starters out of the game.

Martin scored on runs of 17, 8, 1 and 22 yards. The Leopards started fast, as Anthony Crews returned the kickoff 69 yards to the South Allegheny seven and Kole Doppelheuer from seven yards out for a 7-0 lead 17 seconds into the contest.

Following Martin’s first score, Belle Vernon added a safety after the punt went over the head of the Gladiators’ punter and into the end zone for a 15-0 advantage in the first quarter.

Braden Laux threw touchdown passes to Colton Lee and Zach Gelenski and Curtis Wade found the end zone for the Leopards (1-0, 4-1).

Beth-Center 34, Carmichaels 20

Beth-Center scored three straight touchdowns in the second and third quarters to take control and rally for a 34-20 victory over Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

The Mikes (1-2, 2-4) had a 12-6 lead after the first quarter on a touchdown run by AJ Donaldson and an 85-yard kickoff return for a score by Billy White, but the Bulldogs’ Ethan Varesko, Johan Sussan and Teagan Veatch scored for a 28-12 advantage with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter.

Donaldson’s 6-yard touchdown run at 1:23 of the third pulled his team within eight after Ambrose Adamson caught a two-point reception from Donaldson.

Varesko’s 46-yard run with 19.3 left in the third extended the Beth-Center lead to 34-20. Varesko, who also scored in the first quarter, ran for 165 yards on 18 carries.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in conference action and 2-4 overall.

California 58, Mapletown 0

Spencer Petrucci rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns, and California scored two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 58-0 thumping of Mapletown in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Petrucci scored on runs of 40, 32 and 30 yards to help California (3-0, 5-1) build a 46-0 halftime lead.

Jake Layhue returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and Lee Qualk ran 10 yards with a fumble for another score. Layhue also had a 2-yard TD run and Qualk added a 13-yard touchdown run.

Zack Geletei had a 15-yard scoring run and Logan Hartley capped the scoring with a 5-yard TD in the fouth quarter.

California’s defense dominated injury-decimated Mapletown (0-3, 2-4) from start to finish. The Trojans outgained the Maples 318-31 and held Mapletown to only one first down.

Central Catholic 49, Canon-McMillan 6

Peyton Wehner completed 15 of 19 passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns as undefeated Central Catholic rolled to a 49-6 win over Canon-McMillan in a Class 6A Tri-County Five Conference game at Carnegie Mellon.

Central Catholic, which has five Division I recruits, remained undefeated at 3-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall.

Canon-McMillan (1-2, 4-2) scored first, getting a 15-yard TD run by Zach Welsh in the first quarter. Welsh rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries.

Wehner then took over. He fired three touchdown passes to Pete Gonzalez, covering 59, 46 and 83 yards. Gonzalez caught seven passes for 268 yards.

Wehner also connected with Jacob Sassic on a 43-yard scoring strike and Cole Sullivan for a 14-yard TD.

Moon 24, South Fayette 3

Moon scored two touchdowns one minute apart in the second quarter and went on to a 24-3 victory over South Fayette in a Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference game.

South Fayette (0-2, 2-4) scored first, on a 30-yard field goal by Tyler Nicholson midway through the first quarter.

Moon (1-0, 3-3) took the lead in the second quarter on a 12-yard TD run by Josh Bladel. Twenty-nine seconds later, Moon’s Jared Moyer scooped up a fumble when the South Fayette quarterback was hit and raced 32 yards for a touchdown that gave the Tigers a 14-3 lead.

Nazir Brookins added a two-yard scoring plunge and Hayden Boland booted a 24-yard field goal in the second half.

McKeesport 48, Ringgold 0

Ringgold had a tough trip to McKeesport, as the Tigers pulled away for a 48-0 triumph in Class 4A Big Seven Conference play.

McKeesport (3-0, 5-1) scored 21 points in the first quarter and extended its halftime lead to 35-0. Anthony Boyd scored on touchdown runs of 33 and 50 yards, and Anthony Cromerdie returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown.

Garret Tarker threw touchdown passes to Jordan Benjamin and Colton Kotouch, and Valdez Stuvaints had a 17-yard touchdown run. Richard Beermann returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

In other games

Peters Township remained undefeated with a 49-6 win over Baldwin in the Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference. In the Class 2A Century Conference, Keystone Oaks pulled away in the second half for a 41-14 victory over Charleroi. Cornell scored a touchdown and converted a two-point conversion with less than one minute remaining to beat Burgettstown 14-13 in the Class A Black Hills Conference. In the Class A Tri-County South Conference, West Greene was a 41-32 victory over Monessen. No other game details were available at press time.
