Canonsburg Borough will host a public workshop Tuesday, Feb. 27, to discuss the sale of the Canonsburg-Houston Joint Sewer Authority.

The sale of the 60-year-old authority was twice a voting item on Canonsburg Borough council’s agenda last year, and failed to pass both times. In November, council tabled the vote to sell the joint sewer authority to the company Aqua for $145 million.

In December, Houston Borough, which owns 12% of the joint sewer authority, voted to sell. When the issue arose at Canonsburg’s December meeting, the motion failed for lack of a second.

After the December meeting, then-council president Eric Chandler told the Observer-Reporter the vote was “probably one of the biggest decisions this council will make.” The borough, which owns 88% of the joint sewer authority, did not feel it was fully part of the sale conversation, Chandler said at the time.

The Feb. 27 workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. inside council chambers at 68 E. Pike St., Canonsburg.
