Charleroi’s Celaschi throws no-hitter in playoff win

Sofia Celaschi threw a no-hitter over five innings in Charleroi’s 11-0 victory on Tuesday in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A softball playoffs at Norwin.
Celaschi had nine strikeouts and walked four.
The Cougars’ Maddie Lancy had the lone extra-base hit with a double.
Charleroi (14-4) plays Laurel in the quarterfinals on Thursday with the site and time to be determined.
Jefferson-Morgan 10, Carlynton 0
Jefferson-Morgan scored six runs in the fourth inning and Emilee Bazzoli pitched a one-hit shutout in the Rockets’ victory over Carlynton in the first round of the WPIAL Class A softball playoffs at Peterswood Park.
Bazzoli struck out nine and walked two. Bazzoli, Addie Larkin and Addyson Teagarden each had a double for Jefferson-Morgan (8-8). The Rockets play top-seeded Union in the quarterfinals on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
South Side 13, Monessen 3
South Side scored seven runs in the second inning and four in the fifth for a 13-3 victory over Monessen in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs.
The Greyhounds’ Grace Clingenpeel and Lillie Mackey had doubles. Clingenpeel, Mackey and Joey Hurst had one RBI apiece for Monessen.
Serra Catholic 11, Beth-Center 3
Beth-Center had a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the first inning, but Serra Catholic answered with six runs on its way to a victory in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs at Peterswood Park.
The Bulldogs’ Allison Lynch and Kendall Welsh had doubles, and temmate Chloe Bryne had two hits and three RBI. Beth-Center’s Kaytlynn Signorini was 2-for-3.
The Bulldogs started six freshmen.
Mohawk 8, Waynesburg 5
Mohawk scored five runs in the sixth inning to rally past Waynesburg 8-5 on Tuesday in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs at Montour High School.
The Raiders’ Gina Tedrow doubled and knocked in one run. She also singled for two of her team’s six hits.
Tedrow started and took the loss with nine strikeouts and six walks. She allowed eight runs, but only three were earned.
Shenango 5, Burgettstown 4
Burgettstown’s rally came up one run short in a 5-4 loss to Shenango on Tuesday in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A softball playoffs at Mars.
The Blue Devils’ Layla Sherman and Raya Sentipal had one double apiece, and Sentipal added a single for a two-hit day.
Emma McGregor had two RBI for Burgettstown.
Yough 2, McGuffey 1
McGuffey had a 9-6 advantage in hits, but Yough was able to hang on for a 2-1 victory in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs at Norwin.
Faith Ealy and Maura Janovich each had two hits for the Highlanders. MaKenna Crothers started the game at pitcher and also had the lone RBI for McGuffey. She had eight strikeouts and walked two in taking the hard-luck loss.
