When Heather Wagner started a part-time gig as a waitress at Bocktown Beer and Grill in Robinson, little did she know that she would end up married to executive chef Michael Tollis. “He called me ‘New Girl’ and said that he would learn my name after I had been there for three months,” Heather says. A relationship bloomed, and on Heather’s birthday, Michael proposed. Their signature stamp was all over their July 17, 2015, wedding. Heather, 33, says the couple fell in love with the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel for their reception spot while they were there dining at Braddock’s. “I was searching for a whiskey bar and that’s where we ended up. We loved the beauty of the hotel, and the food, and it was almost like our secret dinner spot.”
The couple both love the 1920s era, and incorporated a prohibition and “Great Gatsby” theme to their wedding. “Mike is a whiskey drinker and our signature drink menu was just his style. It was full of feathers and sequins, Prohibition-style drinks and had a romantic, vintage, glamorous feel,” she says.
The decor and hotel were actually the best part of the big day for Heather: “My favorite part was our first look on the grand staircase.”
Heather and Michael, 38, honeymooned in the Finger Lakes, visiting wineries, and now live in Hopewell.
