Allen – Augenstein wedding
Cassie Allen and Chris Augenstein were high school sweethearts who stood the test of time. Though they had actually known each other since she was 6 and he was 9, romance didn’t bloom until her freshman year of high school (his junior year) when she developed quite the crush on him. One fateful day in study hall, he asked her if she would like to to go unicycle lessons. “I did a double take and thought, ‘That’s an odd pickup line.'”
Not only did the pickup line work, but all these years later, unicycling is a huge part of the couple’s life. They’re members of Wonders Unicycle Club and perform in parades and events – by day, she’s a multimedia advertising consultant for Observer Publishing Company and he is a union electrician. It was following a performance during a vacation on a cruise ship that Chris, now 29, proposed. “After the performance, the announcer asked the audience if they wanted an encore – they all shouted and clapped for more. The announcer said, ‘Chris, take it away my friend!’ Then, I noticed our song starting playing, and much to my surprise, he got down on one knee,” Cassie, now 26, recalls.
The couple actually got married privately in their living room on Dec. 12, 2014, and held a reception in a new, large garage on their Belle Vernon property for family and friends on Sept. 15, 2015.
They really got crafty and did a largely-DIY wedding – Cassie’s dad laid a wooden dance floor in the building, and they hung beige painters’ drop cloths and pleated them to disguise the industrial metal walls of the building. In fact, all of the details and décor in the garage were done by the couple and their families.
The theme was “When two become one,” a play on their unicycle hobby, and they even did a unicycle performance for their guests!
